  well, it doesn't surprise me that you can't translate, either.

  there are lots of limitations in Common Lisp.  your "limitation" isn't
  one of them, it's a limitation with you, only.  this is very often the
  sorry state of affairs with (stupid) complainers.  the case for an actual
  limitation in the language has to be made by people who (1) know the
  language well, (2) are creative in using it, and (3) don't give up and
  above all don't blame the language when they fail.  I'll settle for two
  out of three.  let me know how many requirements you think you satisfy.

  the day when somebody on comp.lang.lisp is able to address a limitation
  in Common Lisp (and not only in himself) will be a remarkable day.  no,
  make that comp.lang.*, not just c.l.l.
