Douglas Hofstadter wrote a | series of articles for Scientific American called "Metamagical Themas." | Embedded in it was a sub-series (like 6-8 articles) about Lisp. It was a | pretty good gentle introduction (recursion, Towers of Hanoi, etc.). But | I don't know where to get them. I even wrote to Hofstadter, who informed | me that no, they weren't anywhere on line. I don't even have paper | copies of them. Anybody have them? upon question, my bookshelves returned with Douglas R. Hofstadter: "Metamagical Themas, Questing for the Essence of Mind and Pattern, an Interlocked Collection of Literary, Scientific and Artistic Studies". it's a Penguin paperback, acquisition date 1987-06-01, copyright Basic Books, Inc, 1985. the ISBN is probably useless, but is 0-14-008534-3. books.com and amazon.com both report it in stock as a trade paperback March 1996 _reissue_ at USDĀ 20 (retail USDĀ 25). ISBN 0-465-04566-9. it contains three articles on Lisp: Atoms and Lists; Lists and Recursion; Recursion and Generality; encompassing 59 pages out of 880 total. #:Erik -- The Microsoft Dating Program -- where do you want to crash tonight?
