Toy" | (What is it about usenet that makes people so uncivil? Would they be so | uncivil face-to-face?) face to face, people actually clue in on having annoyed others. those who annoy people, such as by not listening to what others tell them, as much face to face as they do on USENET, experience exactly the same reactions. experiements have actually shown this, but it's really _hard_ for people to feign a lack of social intelligence so great that they go on to annoy people after the first couple hints of rejection or requests to stop annoying others. on USENET, people have been known to annoy others for months on end, simply for lack of _wanting_ to hear what the other person is saying, effectively harrassing them with further stupid and/or hostile comments. I try to send stronger hints than most others, but the densest, most annoying freaks of nature just don't get it. some, however, clue in on the fact that I also answer people's questions, and figure out that there's something in their own behavior that begs for the "go away" tone. those are worth helping further. the rest should indeed go away and I hope they don't come back. #:Erik -- Nie wieder KrF!
