e.g. with the following, to insert the é character, just push CTRL-X, then
 E

(comtab::set-event-function te::*host-comtab*
'((control-key #\X) #\E)
#'(lambda (pane)  
     (write-char #\é pane)))

(I suppose you are using the :host editor mode)
